Director Quentin Tarantino's latest film is an unlikely Western with a slave turned bounty hunter in its title role. "Django Unchained" stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz. Tarantino was joined by them on the red carpet in New York on Tuesday for the film's premiere. Speaking of the concept for "Django" Tarantino said he had thought of the character for years. SOUNDBITE: Quentin Tarantino, director, saying (English): "I had an idea. I had an idea for a long time of an ex-slave who becomes a bounty hunter. And goes out for white guys you know that used to be overseers. But that wasn't a story. That's just an idea. So for eight years or so that idea just fermented and then about a year and a half ago the story came to me and it kind of burst out into one scene." And that very scene also happens to be the opening of the film. Set in the South two years before the American Civil War, the movie follows the journey of two bounty hunters that ultimately leads to the search for Django's slave wife who's been sold to an infamous plantation owner. Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx, who plays Django, said he accepted the part in a heartbeat. SOUNDBITE: Jamie Foxx, actor, saying (English): "I mean everything. First before I read the script, it was Quentin Tarantino. Being able to work with someone like that you're just all in. And then reading the script I was blown away. It was a fantastic script. I didn't knee jerk to on a lot of the other stuff that people sort of knee jerked on." Tarantino is known for not being shy of showing strong violence in his movies, and this latest film is no exception. "Django Unchained" will open in U.S. theaters on December 25.
