No matter where on earth you live, there was no escaping "Gangnam Style" this year. The catchy tune danced its way onto charts all over the world, making its singer, Korean rapper Psy, an overnight sensation and household name. The video for the song was viewed on YouTube more than 800 million times - making it the most viewed video on the site ever.
Psy was everywhere: he danced on the carpet at MTV's Video Music Awards, met with U.N. Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, performed for U.S. President Barack Obama at a Christmas celebration, and taught Britney Spears his signature moves on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
His video also spawned a string of parodies.
One of the most popular was made by some members of the U.S. Naval Academy, who basically re-created the entire video.
And people around the world followed suit - from "Gangnam Style"-synched Christmas lights to cowboy-line dancing tributes, proving that in 2012, "Gangnam Style" was definitely in style.
