Just days after the deadly shooting in Connecticut, and an 11-year-old boy takes a gun to school in Utah, saying it's protection against similar attacks.
The sixth-grader carried a handgun to West Kearns Elementary on Monday (December 17), claiming he wanted to defend himself.
But during break, he allegedly waved the gun at classmates.
SOUNDBITE: ISABELLE RIOS, STUDENT SAYING (English):
"He pulled out a gun and he put it to my head, me and my friend Ted, and he said he was gonna kill us. But then he said... I told him I was gonna go tell, but he said, 'if you tell I'm gonna kill you.'"
The gun was unloaded, although a different type of ammunition was reportedly found in the boy's backpack.
He is now detained by police on assault and weapons charges.
