A packed Bondi Beach on New Year's Day - until a shark alarm sent bathers hurrying out of the water. SOUNDBITE: Unidentified U.S. tourist, saying (English): "I'm from America and we don't have any kind of shark alarms like that. So, nobody really knew what the loud sound was and then some of the Aussies informed me that it was has to do with sharks, so that was kind of scary, definitely." Local media reported that a surf patrol boat was on routine surveillance when life guards spotted a large shark. The beach was closed for about 30 minutes before swimmers were allowed back into the water.
