U.S. presidential drama "Lincoln" led the pack of Oscar nominees on Thursday (January 10) with 12 nominations including a nod for best picture, in the race for the world's top film honors. Daniel Day-Lewis picked up a best actor nod, Steven Spielberg a nod for best director and Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones for best supporting actor. Close behind, with 11 nominations was Ang Lee's "Life of Pi." The fantastical shipwreck tale earned best picture and best director nominations. Dark romantic comedy "Silver Linings Playbook" picked up a handful of nominations including best director, best picture and best actor for Bradley Cooper and best actress Jennifer Lawrence. Also recognized by the Academy for best picture were CIA thriller "Argo," musical "Les Miserables," Osama bin Laden thriller "Zero Dark Thirty," Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained," mythological film "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and Austrian drama "Amour." The Oscars will be handed out on February 24. "The Hunger Games" bested the competition at the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday (January 9) emerging the top victor with five trophies. It was named favorite movie, action movie and movie franchise, and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth had fans' favorite on-screen chemistry. Lawrence also won favorite movie actress and "face of heroism." Katy Perry won three awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles, picking up fans' favorite female artist and pop artist. Sandra Bullock picked up the show's first favorite humanitarian award for her efforts in New Orleans. Steven Spielberg may be swimming in Oscar nominations but one of his other projects has hit a few speedbumps. DreamWorks studio has indefinitely postponed sci-fi epic "Robopocalypse," the director's next film. No reason was given for the delay, but a source with knowledge of the film said the director was dissatisfied with the script and production budget estimates. The movie, slated to star Anne Hathaway and Chris Hemsworth, was set to begin production this spring and be released in April 2014. No new release date has been announced.
