British music stars gathered at London's plush Savoy hotel to eagerly await this year's BRIT Award nominations. Scottish singer Emeli Sande - whose debut album was Britain's biggest seller last year - scored three nods. She was joined by folk act Mumford and Sons and indie rockers Alt-J with three BRIT Award nominations apiece. Boyband sensation One Direction were also among the contenders for best British group. The surprise of the night was Amy Winehouse's posthumous nomination for best female solo act. She was shortlisted for an album of unreleased tracks and demos. Another shock was the nod for veteran rockers The Rolling Stones as best British live act after their short, sell-out tour at the end of last year.
