(ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION) A family on a beach in Western Australia was enveloped in darkness as a dust storm struck on Wednesday (January 9) near the town of Onslow. It was an otherwise ordinary day at the beach for local mother Hayley Brett and her family, when the gigantic dust storm suddenly approached, plunging them into darkness. Brett told Reuters that her husband was taking a swim when he noticed the approaching storm and told his family to look. The family tried to reach their car when everything went pitch black, she said. Weather experts say the incredible sight of a 'red wave' from the sea was created as wind and rain caused the storm to dump the sand and dust it had taken from the land.
