A five-month-old Humboldt penguin, looking for food … and not in vain. The bird is one of two born at a breeding area on Peru's northern coast, giving conservationists hope for the endangered species. Guillermo Baigorrea is head of the project. SOUNDBITE: Guillermo Baigorrea, head of penguin breeding area, saying (Spanish): "We have seven eggs, three of them hatched. One [penguin] didn't make it, and we have the other two here. The other eggs were pretty deteriorated. When the couples reproduce, because it's their first time, they have a hard time getting their offspring to survive." The two penguins will soon be released into the wild but they will continue to be monitored. They add valuable numbers to the imperiled population.
