Possibly one of the most talked about documentaries at the Sundance Film Festival premiered on Friday (January 18) with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl leading the way. It's the directorial debut for the former Nirvana drummer as he looks in to the history of the famed Sound City recording studio in Los Angeles. It was a topic that had personal meaning for the musician. SOUNDBITE Dave Grohl saying (English): "Well it was easy because you're talking about music with musicians and it's all we do anyway. And then you're inviting them to come jam with you, which is all we do anyway. So the biggest challenge for me was just to tell the story of Sound City, to do justice to Sound City. It's a story that I think should be told. Sound City is not the only studio in the world that has disappeared. Where legendary music has been made, And those places to me are like cathedrals." Grohl contacted as many musicians as he could think of who had a connection to the studio and many ended up in the documentary including Trent Reznor, Mick Fleetwood, John Fogerty, Lindsey Buckingham, Tom Petty, Neil Young, and Stevie Nicks. Many were on hand in Park City, Utah to celebrate the launch of the film, including Nicks. The Sundance Film Festival runs from January 17 through January 27 in Park City, Utah.
