(ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION) Turkish military officials continued to transfer German Patriot units to the Syrian border on Wednesday (January 23) as part of a NATO operation to bolster Turkey's defence against the threat of air attacks or incursions from Syria. The Patriot surface-to-air missiles are being deployed to Kahramanmaras Province in southeastern Turkey, about 100 kilometres away from the Syrian border. The Netherlands, Germany and the United States are each sending two Patriot missile batteries and up to 400 troops to Turkey after Ankara asked for NATO's help to bolster security along its border. The first of the six missile batteries arrived on the border on Monday (January 21). The Patriot batteries are expected to be fully functional by the end of January.
