Security is tight at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara a day after a suicide bomber blew himself up, taking a Turkish security guard with him. A Turkish journalist was also caught in the blast and is now in a critical condition. The bomber had detonated explosives strapped to his body just inside the Embassy gatehouse. A Turkish security expert said the attack shows that the U.S. and Turkey are prime targets for extremists. (SOUNDBITE) (Turkish) SECURITY EXPERT, ALI NIHAT OZCAN, SAYING: "I think this attack contains a stark message, a serious threat to both the United States and Turkey especially because of their policies on Syria." Residents in the capital expressed their sadness over the attack. This man said he felt sorry for the victims, adding that Turkey has seen incidents like this before. The U.S. condemned the blast as an act of terror and said the main suspect is a far-leftist group responsible for assassinating two American military contractors in the 1990s. It is also linked to several other militant suicide bombings in recent years.
