ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: New York fashion house Badgley Mischka kept it sleek for its Fall 2013 collection of beaded gowns and daytime tweed fit for a heroine in an Alfred Hitchcock movie. They showed their film noir-inspired line on Tuesday (February 12) at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. "We were inspired by Hitchcock's classic femme fatales," designer James Mischka told Reuters. "We were watching a bunch of the master, of Hitchcock movies. Some of his lesser-known movies such as 'Vertigo' and 'Marnie' were really inspirational to us this season because of the hidden agendas of the lead female characters." Smoke swirled in front of a black backdrop for the runway show at Lincoln Center. The setting hinted of dangerous curves ahead: Dazzling gold beading on cocktail separates and drop-dead slinky gowns appeared in contrast to daytime and evening looks in smoky grays, black, white and beige. Beyond the sparkle and the neutrals, Badgley Mischka used some deep rich colors - a blood red, a pine green and a dark navy. The refined elegance of their fall collection will play a major role in Badgley Mischka's next venture. The designers will open their first flagship store in New York in late spring in an old brownstone townhouse on the Upper East Side.
