Video which could not be independently verified by Reuters shows smoke filled streets with the relentless sound of automatic gunfire.
As the countries conflict closes in on the Capital City, opposition leaders say they will negotiate with any member of the government who has not taken part in the crackdown. So far it's an offer the government has been able to refuse.
The political chasm between the sides, along with an international diplomatic deadlock, has allowed fighting to rage on with almost 70,000 people killed in the conflict.
More footage appears to show buildings near a military airport completely destroyed. Opposition fighters say government forces are detonating buildings near to the airport to make it easier to secure the strategically vital compound.
