ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited a giant mausoleum where the embalmed body of his father lies in state on Saturday to mark the late Kim's birth anniversary. The North's state-run television KRT showed Kim's visit to the Kumsusan Palace of the sun with his wife Ri Sol-ju as part of celebrations marking late leader Kim Jong-il's 71st birthday. The couple, accompanied by top officials of the secretive state, bowed deeply in front of statues of the late Kim Jong-il and his father and the communist state's founder Kim Il-sung. The mausoleum is dedicated to the two deceased members of the Kim clan. New statues of Kim Jong-il and Kim Il-sung were also erected for the celebration at Mangyongdae Revolutionary School in Pyongyang. Kim Jong-il died in December 2011, aged 69 years, after 17 years running the world's most reclusive state. He has been succeeded by his youngest son, Kim Jong-un, who is the third of his line heading the world's only hereditary totalitarian Stalinist state. On Tuesday, North Korea conducted its third nuclear test, drawing global condemnation and a stern warning from the United States that it was a threat and a provocation.
