With 27.4 million units shipped to operators worldwide in the fourth quarter of 2012, the Apple iPhone 5 captured the title of the world's best-selling smartphone from Samsung's Galaxy S3.
That's according to research from consulting firm Strategy Analytics.

Its older version, iPhone 4S, was second, with Apple distributing an estimated 17.4 million units around the world. .
The two models combined were responsible for 1 in 5 of all smartphones shipped worldwide during that period.
iPhone's fiercest rival, the Galaxy S3, came in third. Samsung shipped 15.4 million units of that device around the world, capturing just 7 percent market share.
But Samsung may already be working on a comeback. There are rumors a Galaxy S4 could be unveiled in a matter of weeks.
