A star is born in downtown Tokyo.
Haku, a white river otter cub, is attracting lots of attention at the Sunshine City Aquarium.
NAT SOUND: SCHOOL CHILD LOOKING AT HAKU AND SHOUTING "CUTE!"
At four months, her fur remains light even though most white river otters' fur turns dark at this age.
Aquarium representative Hideo Yamabe says while her color has changed some, Haku is likely to keep her unique light tone.
(SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) SUNSHINE CITY AQUARIUM GUEST COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT AQUA STAFF HIDEO YAMABE SAYING:
"Depending on the individual, there are some that stay white or somewhat cream-coloured. So it does seem like she will be our fair-skinned beauty."
And her light-skinned beauty is charming visitors -- both old and young.
(SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) 6-YEAR-OLD MIO MIYAZAKI SAYING:
"I thought it was cute how it was small and how its ears were sort of poking out."
Haku brings the aquarium's river otter count to seven.
She's not yet old enough to join the adult otters. But that seems to suit this white starlet just fine as she walks among her fans, soaking up the limelight.
