A call for arms -- to break the military stalemate in Syria. French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said France and Britain want an urgent EU meeting to persuade allies to end an arms embargo on Syrian rebels. He said lifting the arms ban was one of the only ways to move forward the conflict -- now approaching the 2 year mark. (SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH FOREIGN MINISTER LAURENT FABIUS SAYING: "The position that we're taking, which is also that of the British, is to ask the Europeans now to lift the embargo so that the rebels have the possibility of defending themselves." In London, Foreign Secretary William Hague suggested British support of rebels could expand beyond the quasi-military aid, like armored vehicles, it has pledged so far. (SOUNDBITE)(English) UK FOREIGN SECRETARY WILLIAM HAGUE, SAYING: "I have said of course that that policy may need to change again in the future if the situation continues to get worse, more people dying, more people fleeing." But Russia warned on Wednesday that supplying arms to non-governmental groups like the rebels was illegal under international law. This as Iran reportedly ramps up its supply of arms to forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.
