The fourth season of U.S. network NBC's singing competition series, "The Voice," premiered on Wednesday (March 20), and previous judge Christina Aguilera joined new judge Usher on the show's premiere red carpet in Los Angeles.
Aguilera, who acted as a judge and mentor on the first three seasons, said she was happy to lend her support to the show and to her replacement judge, Shakira.
SOUNDBITE: Christina Aguilera saying (English):
"I would feel to robotic if I was constantly on camera all the time and I need moments as an artist to just process, and rejuvenate, have me personal time and be re-inspired. It'll be fun to see what happens in the blind audition process behind, from an audience perspective for once and not sweating bullets in that seat."
The show format features four stages of competition: the first begins with blind auditions, then battle rounds, knockouts and finally, live performance shows. Usher said that all show contestants should keep one thing in mind to stay in the game.
SOUNDBITE: Usher saying (English):
"It's really about their connection with the audience and the world. People are listening with their ears, but they feel with their hearts. If you can make that connection, you can win it."
New mom Shakira, who just had her first child with Spanish footballer Gerard Pique, did not attend the premiere.
In addition to her and Usher, season four features returning judges Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
