ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: North Korean students held a mass rally in support of its army and pledged to retaliate against the United States and its 'followers,' the state-run television KRT reported on Wednesday. The network broadcast a video of the outdoor rally on Wednesday saying that thousands of North Korean students attended, but didn't specify when the rally was held. The video showed thousands of students gathered in a square in Pyongsong, north of the capital Pyongyang, chanting slogans such as "let's kill!" It also showed students marching down streets holding a banner reading: "If the United States attacks us, we will remove them from the earth." Tensions have been escalating on the peninsula after Pyongyang was hit with U.S. sanctions for conducting a third nuclear test in February and the United States and South Korea staged military drills that North Korea viewed as "hostile." Pyongyang then threatened a nuclear strike on the United States, missile strikes on its Pacific bases and war with South Korea, prompting Washington to bolster forces in the region. The state-owned KCNA news agency announced on Tuesday (April 2) that North Korea would relaunch all nuclear facilities for both electricity and military uses. Also on Wednesday (April 3), the North suspended South Korean workers' entry to the joint industrial zone in Kaesong of the North.
