STORY: Stars Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford stepped out onto the red carpet Tuesday night (April 09) for the premiere of "42," a film that plays out the drama and heroics behind Jackie Robinson and the Brooklyn Dodgers breaking baseball's color barrier. From Academy Award winner Brian Helgeland comes the real-life drama "42," starring Boseman as Jackie Robinson and Ford as Branch Rickey. In 1947, Branch Rickey put himself at the forefront of history when he signed Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking Major League Baseball's infamous color line. Facing racism from every side, Robinson was forced to demonstrate tremendous courage and restraint by not reacting in kind, knowing that any incident could destroy his and Rickey's hopes. SOUNDBITE Chadwick Boseman saying (English): "So, I think it is important, not, obviously just for the sport. But because it was able to be used as a format for law, a format for medicine and a format for what ever job or endeavor you wanted to achieve. This event was the beginning of that." Harrison Ford, who takes on the role of Rickey in the film, explained that his character in the film is interesting on many levels. SOUNDBITE Harrison Ford saying (English): "I read the script and it had a fantastic character in it, wonderful language and when I did some research and saw the actual man himself and began to read about it, I was fascinated by the character. It was a wonderful call for the character." "42" opens nationwide on April 12.
