Former teacher: 'They were normal people here'

April 20 - In Kyrgyzstan, the Tsarnaev's former teacher and a family friend reflect on the brothers and how promising their futures once seemed. Deborah Gembara reports.

Before Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev became the most wanted men in America, they were fixtures in this small village in Kyrgyzstan. The turn their lives have taken have many here shaking their heads. SOUNDBITE: Bodrudi Tsakaev, a good friend of the Tsarnaev family. Saying: "I'm shocked by this terrorist attack. I wouldn't ever expect such a thing - not even in my dreams." 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was captured by law enforcement overnight, was born in Kyrgystan and along with his brother Tamerlan lived in this house. SOUNDBITE: Lyubov Polosina, the Tsarnaev brother's former schoolteacher saying: "They all grew up right in front of my eyes. I saw them all. When summer would come... well, they were all decent, there's nothing else I can say, decent they were." Lyubov Polosina, a retired schoolteacher, taught both of the brothers at the local school and says they were good students, that they came from a family that valued education. SOUNDBITE: Lyubov Polosina, the Tsarnaev brother's former schoolteacher saying: In my opinion, all of this outrage, didn't come from here,. They picked it up somewhere else. They were normal people here." The Tsarnaev's former neighbor, who is still in touch with the family says there were no trouble signs, that they seemed focused on the future. SOUNDBITE: Former neighbor of the Tsarnaev family saying (Russian) "Their father came to visit me two years ago, he was here. He told me that his Tamerlan was boxing and that he would be coming to the Sochi Olympics in 2014." The older Tsarnaev was a 2010 New England Gloves Gloves champion,who had hoped to make it onto the U.S. Olympic team. Some, including their uncle have speculated that the Tsarnaevs struggled to adjust to life in the United States.
