April 20 - The alleged rape of 5-year-old girl in New Delhi triggers a protest march and revives memories of a brutal gang rape in December in which a student died of her injuries. Sarah Charlton reports.

Relatives and activists marched on the building on Friday (April 19) where the girl was admitted in a critical condition. Media reports say a neighbour allegedly raped and tortured the child while holding her hostage for three days. Demonstrators accused police of inaction. Meenakshi Lekhi is a spokesperson for the Indian opposition. SOUNDBITE: (English) SPOKESPERSON OF INDIA'S MAIN OPPOSITION, BHARATIYA JANATA PARTY, MEENAKSHI LEKHI, SAYING: "The police mechanism of work was absolutely unprofessional because the child was found in the basement of the same premises and was raped constantly and nobody even went to search that place. So, shows an unprofessional attitude of the police, apart from the fact that protesters have been very badly treated by the police." Authorities have arrested a 25-year-old suspect. The incident reawakened concerns about safety in the capital following the gang rape of a student in December which triggered public outcry.
