ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
STORY: The highly anticipated film "The Great Gatsby" had its world premiere in New York on Wednesday (May 1), kicking off what film director Baz Luhrmann hopes will be a summer of extravagant Gatsby-inspired parties and good music.
The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and has a soundtrack packed with some of today's biggest pop-stars produced by rapper Jay-Z.
The film marks the second time DiCaprio and Luhrmann have teamed up, the first being in 1996 for Romeo and Juliet.
"Baz is one of the most exciting nostalgic directors to work with. Once you're enveloped in his world of creativity you can't leave it," DiCaprio said of his director.
In an earlier interview DiCaprio said Luhrmann had a bit of Gatsby inside of him. On the red carpet Luhrmann admitted to the similarities.
"Oh Leonardo, well, he's a bit Gatsby himself. I guess I was a little boy who grew up in the middle of nowhere and I had dreams. And here I am on this carpet, so maybe."
The world premiere was held at New York's Lincoln Center. Fans started lining up hours before the premiere to catch a glimpse of the stars.
The film will open in the U.S. on May 10th and will also open the Cannes film festival on May 15th.
