The highly anticipated film "The Great Gatsby" had its world premiere in New York kicking off what film director Baz Luhrmann hopes will be a summer of extravagant Gatsby-inspired parties and good music. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and has a soundtrack packed with some of today's biggest pop-stars produced by rapper Jay-Z. Luhrmann made sure the 3D big-screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's book would hit an array of senses. SOUNDBITE: Baz Luhrmann, director, saying: "Fitzgerald took African American street music, jazz, and he put it front and center in his novel. And people said, 'why are you doing that, it's a fad, it will never last.' And I thought I wanted the audience when they watched this movie to feel like the audience did when they heard that jazz. Or they read that jazz in his book or popular music." The film marks the second time DiCaprio and Luhrmann have teamed up, the first being in 1996 for "Romeo and Juliet." SOUNDBITE: Leonardo DiCaprio, actor, saying (English): "Baz is one of the most exciting nostalgic directors to work with. Once you're enveloped in his world of creativity you can't leave it." Fans crowed New York's Lincoln Center to watch the stars walk the red carpet. Actress Carey Mulligan, who plays Daisy was overwhelmed. SOUNDBITE: "It's completely surreal and so exciting and I'm really like privileged. It's amazing." The film will open in the U.S. on May 10th and will also open the Cannes film festival on May 15th.
