STORY: Nicole Kidman, Carey Mulligan, Naomie Harris and Rooney Mara were all celebrated tonight (May 16) at the third annual Calvin Klein IFP celebration of women in film.
The event, which honors women who have made an impact on the film industry, was held at the L'Ecrin in a rainy Cannes during the festival.
Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie announced this week that she had undergone a preventative double mastectomy after being told she was at high risk of developing breast cancer.
Some of the honorees spoke to Reuters about their feelings about the decision to make the news public.
Mulligan, who opened the festival last night with 'The Great Gatsby' said: "I think it's incredibly brave and admirable and wonderful and brilliant that she came out and spoke about it."
Naomie Harris also came out in support of the Tomb Raider star. "Well it's hugely brave." said Harris. "And I think that must have been an incredibly difficult decision to make. I can't even imagine being faced with those kinds of odds. 87 percent chance of getting cancer is huge and I understand the decision she took but it is incredibly brave and I really admire it."
