ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION The South Korean army says its first home-produced combat helicopter is ready for battle. The Surion, equipped with 3D electronic maps, automatic flying and anti-vibration reduction systems, will replace the South Korean army's aging fleet of helicopters to enhance military operation capabilities after a six-year-long operational test. South Korea's Defense Acquisition and Procurement Agency launched a project to build a two-engine transport utility helicopter in 2006 to replace UH-1H attack helicopters and 500MD light helicopters which have been in service for decades. The South Korean army said that advanced technology used in building the aircraft has led it to pass 50 flight tests under extreme weather conditions in the U.S. state of Alaska for 50 days in December 2012, flying over 11,000 kilometres. The South Korean military says it plans to introduce about 200 more Surions by the end of 2022.
