North Korea's special envoy to China returned to Pyongyang after a three-day visit to Beijing.
Choe Ryong Hae, who is also the director of North Korea's general political bureau and the vice marshall of the Korean People's Army, stepped off a plane before dawn Saturday.
Chinese state media said Choe presented a hand-written letter from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to Chinese President Xi Jinping, and reportedly told Xi that North Korea is willing to take positive actions to ensure peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.
China, North Korea's only real ally, has been pushing for a return to talks after weeks of bellicose threats against the U.S. and South Korea.
