As the conflict rages in Syria, the UN says it needs help. The flames of war have already killed at least 80,000 people with some 1.6 million Syrians now living as refugees in other countries. UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres is appealing for help. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UN HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR REFUGEES, ANTONIO GUTERRES, SAYING: "There is already evident spill over of the conflict in Lebanon and in Iraq. Jordan is in a very fragile economic situation and if the fighting doesn't stop, we risk to have an explosion n the Middle East for which the international community is simply not prepared." Amateur video which could not be independently verified by Reuters shows the relentless violence and destruction in Syria. On Thursday, the European Union pledged an extra 523 million dollars of aid for Syria. But it is not enough. The UN says it will need some 5 billion dollars in humanitarian aid for the country by the end of the year, where there is still no end in sight after more than two years of unrest.
