Almost one week ago President Bashar al-Assad's forces won a significant victory seizing the border town of Qusair. They are now believed to be preparing offensives on rebel-held areas near Damascus and Aleppo. Against this backdrop the U.S. and Russia are trying to bring Assad's government and his opponents together in Geneva in July. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry standing shoulder to shoulder with the UK's William Hague offered support to rebel forces while offering nothing new on supplying arms. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN KERRY SAYING: "We are determined to do everything we can in order to help the opposition to be able to reach -- to save Syria. And that stands, that is exactly what we are going to do. I have nothing new to announce today. When and if I do, you will hear about it." Hague stressed that the only solution is a political one. (SOUNDBITE) (English) BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY WILLIAM HAGUE, SAYING: "Whatever happens, however long it goes on for in the end there has to be a political solution., There isn't a solution for either side of only military conquests." On the ground the military campaign goes on, with amateur video which could not be independently verified by Reuters appearing to show an airstrike on Damascus. another chapter in a war that has already killed more than 80,000 people.
