In a hurry to celebrate, young gorilla Monroe gets to grips with his birthday treats.
He was born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on June 17, 2011, and is the youngest of the troop of seven critically endangered Western lowland gorillas.
Peggy Sexton is the lead keeper at the zoo.
SOUNDBITE: Peggy Sexton, lead keeper, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, saying (English):
"Monroe is quite the precocious little guy, just being two years old you would never know it. He is all over, everywhere and playing with everyone one, all the adults and his newest buddy Frank, who came up from the zoo."
Sexton says it's important to keep the animals active and stimulated, allowing them to show off their natural behaviors.
Something Monroe seems to revel in.
