Global heavyweights China and the European Union meet to discuss trade. Beijing is holding the annual bilateral meeting amidst fears that a growing trade dispute could lead to an all-out trade war. The European Commission accuses China of dumping billions of euros of solar panels in Europe at below the cost of production. But many European countries are opposed to the commission's imposition of duties, worried it will lead to retaliation by Beijing. Sure enough, within 24 hours of the duties being applied, China launched an investigation into EU wine. The probe is apparently targeting countries like France and Italy, which supported the solar action. The EU is looking to negotiate a settlement and avoid a costly and debilitating trade war.
