ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: A tanker truck transporting alcohol exploded Friday on a Bolivian highway on its way to Peru killing at least 18 people. It was still unclear how many people were injured in the accident. The horrific multiple crash occurred on a highway linking the South American countries near the city of San Juan de Huancollo near the Peruvian border about 100 kilometers or 60 miles from La Paz. Local reports indicated the tanker exploded after the truck driver lost control and collided with at least five other vehicles. In total 11 vehicles were involved in the pile up with eight completely burned out. Local officials said they had some setbacks in controlling the resulting blaze and that injured victims had been taken to nearby hospitals. An investigation was underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
