"Rohani is not a moderate"-Iranian dissident leader

June 22 - Tens of thousands of Iranians gather in Paris to reject the election result that brought Hassan Rohani to power on June 14. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

Remembering those lost in Iran. Dissident leader and head of the French-based National Council of Resistance of Iran Maryam Rajavi shows no support for the new President of Iran Hassan Rahani, praised by some in the international community as a voice of moderation. . (SOUNDBITE) (English) LEADER OF NATIONAL COUNCIL OF RESISTANCE OF IRAN, MARYAM RAJAVI, SAYING: "Rohani is not a moderate. There is no moderate in Mollah's regime" She is not alone. On Saturday tens of thousands gathered on the outskirts of Paris to attend a rally to protest the election. Many American political leaders were on hand with organizers saying people came to the event from more than 45 different countries. Former CIA Director Porter Goss says there is little new about Iran's new President. (SOUNDBITE) (English) FORMER CIA DIRECTOR, PORTER GOSS, SAYING: "I think that Hassan Rohani is a pretend moderate but I still think he is a puppet of the Ayatollah and will act as a puppet of the Ayatollah. So I don't think that this represents a regime change. " The White House has said that Iran's election is a sign that Iranians want to move in a different direction, but it is unclear whether that will lead to a breakthrough over Tehran's nuclear ambitions.
