Mandela's grandson thanks well-wishers

June 25 - The grandson of Nelson Mandela thanks well-wishers for their support as he remains critically ill in hospital. Paul Chapman reports.

Outside the hospital where Nelson Mandela remains in a critical condition the stream of well-wishers is unabated. (SOUNDBITE)(English) LOCAL RESIDENT CALVIN NETSHIKEETA SAYING: "Get well very soon, we need you in this world." (SOUNDBITE)(English) ZIMBABWEAN RESIDENT BLESSED MUKODYO SAYING: "We wish him a speedy recovery but it's for God to decide it it's time for him to go." There were similar scenes outside Mandela's home in Johannesburg. (SOUNDBITE)(English) LOCAL RESIDENT SILINDILE KALELA SAYING: "The whole world is saddened by the news and we really wish him well." On Monday Mandela's grandson Mandla thanked South Africa and people world-wide for their support. (SOUNDBITE)(English) MANDLA MANDELA, NELSON MANDELA'S GRANDSON, SAYING: "We've been grateful to South Africans and people of the global community who have showered the family with prayers and we are hoping that my grandfather will recover steadily. He is under good care, under the supervision of nurses and doctors which we have been grateful for their efforts in ensuring that they are at his bedside and attending to him." Mandela's revered by millions as the father of post-apartheid South Africa. But the 94-year-old's deterioration over the weekend with a lung infection has made many realise he won't be around forever.
