At the age of 100, she is now officially the oldest primary school graduate of Mexico. Manuela Hernandez was born in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca (pronounced: wahaka) in June 1913. But she had to leave school after just one year in order to help make ends meet at home. SOUNDBITE: PRIMARY SCHOOL GRADUATE, MANUEL HERNANDEZ, SAYING (Spanish) "My parents did not insist on me studying. I wanted to go but I couldn't because my mother didn't have the money." Hernandez resumed her studies at the age of 99...and she's hoping to make it through secondary school too...proving that you are never too old to learn.
