Emergency services rescued the people left stranded by the flood in India's northern Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday. The alarm was raised that a family of nomads were caught on a small island while grazing their herds. Some cattle were washed away but the majority of the livestock was saved. A joint team from India's army, border security and police launched the rescue efforts in Kathua district's Ujh river. Northern India is reeling as floods, triggered by heavier than normal monsoon rains, have killed at least 822 people and displaced tens of thousands in recent days.
