July 3 - Thousands of Egyptians cheered the news that a military operation had removed President Mohamed Mursi from office. Deborah Gembara reports.

This was Tahrir Square just moments after the announcement that President Mohamed Mursi had been removed from office. Hundreds of thousands cheered the news that the military had toppled the Islamist leader, paving the way for a political transition SOUNDBITE: Opponent Of Former Egyptian President Mursi, Osama Mahdy saying (Arabic) "We want to thank God that he rid us of the Muslim brotherhood that are not even Muslim. Thank God that he exposed the joint United States and Israeli plots, and now God will protect us from these plots. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with the army, the people, the judiciary thank you very much for your work." SOUNDBITE: Opponent Of Former Egyptian President Mursi, Saying: "Long live the free, independent, Egypt." SOUNDBITE: Opponent Of Former Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi, Saying: "I am so happy, my daughters and I are so happy, I left my job to sit-in." The jubilation in Cairo's main square came at end of a day that began with talk of possible civil war if Mursi persisted in his efforts to remain in office
