ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
STORY: Mexico's fuming Popocatepetl showed no signs of calming down on Sunday in these images released by the navy after an increased level of explosive activity prompted authorities to raise the alert level for the towering volcano after an increased level of explosive activity.
The alert level for the Popocatepetl volcano, located some 50 miles or 80 kilometers southeast of the capital, was raised to yellow phase three from yellow phase two on Saturday (July 06), Mexico's National Center for Disaster Prevention (CENAPRED) said in a statement.
It is the third-highest caution on the center's seven-step scale and warns a change in activity in the volcano could provoke big explosions capable of sending incandescent fragments out over considerable distances.
