Little is sacred in the war in Syria as a 13th century mosque comes under attack in Homs. This month Syrian forces have targeted Homs, seen as crucial to the government's attempts to link the capital to President Bashar al-Assad's coastal strongholds. The hope is to divide rebel units in the north and south. The video, which could not be independently verified comes as members of Syria's opposition say they have given up hope that the US will deliver on promised military aid. National security sources say Congress is holding up plans over fears that the deliveries will not be decisive -- and arms may end up in the wrong hands. Now buildings in Syria's third largest city have been cracked open. Fires burn in destroyed rooms. Activists say the death toll now stands near 100,000, in a conflict that has gone on for more ethan two years. The United Nations has expressed alarm at conditions in Homs, saying last week that as many a 4,000 civilians are trapped -- facing shortages of the most basic necessities. The opposition offered of a truce for the holy month of Ramadan has not been taken up by the government.
