ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall has left at least 18 people dead in China's southwest province of Sichuan, state Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday (July 11). Xinhua said local authorities were still verifying the exact number of the missing after an initial investigation showed that 107 people across the city could not be reached immediately. State television CCTV showed footage of excavators clearing mud brought on by gushing floods of water which overflowed in the streets causing the collapse of some roads and bridges. Torrential rains have been battering most parts of Sichuan since Monday (July 8), disrupting traffic and forcing tens of thousands to flee their homes. CCTV said rain in Sichuan will subside in the coming days, citing meteorological authorities.
