Today's Daily Digit is 24... as in July 24. That's the new date for Dell shareholders to decide if they will go with a $24.4 billion offer from founder Michael Dell. A meeting set for today was scrapped shortly after it began. Why? Sources say it looks like Dell's bid to take the company private did not have enough votes to pass. It's the latest twist in what is becoming an epic saga between Michael Dell and a competing bid from billionaire investor Carl Icahn, who wants to keep the personal computer maker publicly-traded. So what happens now? Investors wait to see if Michael Dell and partner Silver Lake sweeten the pie enough to convince shareholders that their offer, and their plan for the company, makes more sense. Shares are up, but still below the $13.65 Dell offer price.
