Gunfire rings out in Egypt's restive Sinai region.
At least six Egyptians were killed and another 11 wounded in a series of militant attacks near the Israeli and Gaza borders.
The assaults, which targeted military checkpoints and police stations, happened overnight in the communities of Rafah and El Arish.
Civilians, army officers and policemen were among those killed.
This resident said one of the people killed was shot in the neck by a sniper.
The attacks were the worst violence in a single day the region has seen so far in July.
