July 23 - The Royal Mint adorns families of babies born on the same day as the new royal prince with commemorative silver one penny pieces. Elly Park reports.

July 22nd, 2013. That is the birthday of the new Prince of Cambridge and to celebrate, the Royal Mint has produced special silver pennies for babies born on the same day. The tradition of handing a new born a silver coin is centuries' old and is meant to bring wealth and happiness to the child. Shane Bissett of the Royal Mint. SOUNDBITE: Royal Mint Director of Commemorative Coin, Shane Bissett saying (English) "We will be gifting two thousand and thirteen coins for people who have their child born on the same day as the royal baby." The commemorative penny is made from sterling silver opposed to the regular copper-plated steel or bronze coins, and comes in either a blue or pink pouch depending on the gender of the baby. People wanting to claim their coin have 60 days to go to the royal mint's Facebook page and follow the instructions which involve scanning a copy of the new born's birth certificate.
