These days when a celebrity or a first lady cuts their hair it can become headline-making news. Earlier this year fringes were made cool again when several high profile ladies began to bang out. Celebrity hair stylist Ted Gibson. SOUNDBITE: Ted Gibson, celebrity hair stylist, saying (English): "Some of the women that are wearing the best bangs are Kim Kardashian, Kerry Washington, Beyonce, Emma Stone. But we all know that the First Lady wore them the best. I know she's not in Hollywood, but she wore them the best." Gibson, who has worked with Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway, says while bangs are a commitment, they can change a woman's entire demeanor. SOUNDBITE: Ted Gibson, celebrity hair stylist, saying (English): "Bangs can make you look sexy, they can make you look confident. They can be youthful. So there are all these really great adjectives that can describe what a bang can do for a woman." While the pixie cut has been around for centuries, every few years a celebrity makes news by cutting off her locks. In 2010, it was Emma Watson, who teamed up with Australian New York-based stylist Rodney Cutler. SOUNDBITE: Rodney Cutler, celebrity hair stylist, saying (English): "It was just the right timing. And you know, Emma is just so beautiful. She has the perfect face. She is one of the lucky ones, she can wear anything. And she's just such a classy confident young lady." Actresses Carey Mulligan and Michelle Williams are also among the trendsetters. SOUNDBITE: Rodney Cutler, celebrity hair stylist, saying (English): "It really does start with the celebrities because mainstream really sort of gets excited when they see the celebrities that we recognize and we love doing it." But however you cut, extensions can provide women with endless options. Stylist Tina Pearson specializes not only in weaves, but healthy hair. SOUNDBITE: Tina Pearson, celebrity hair stylist, saying (English): "I think celebrities like busy women in general opt for extension because sometimes you don't have time. You just don't have time. And it's damaging on your hair if you're constantly curling your hair, constantly flat ironing, you know, putting heat in your hair, it can be very damaging." Having a full hair weave can cost over $1,000 (USD), however clip-ons are providing budget-strapped trend-seekers a cheaper way to stay in style. SOUNDBITE: Tina Pearson, celebrity hair stylist, saying (English): "The clip-ons would be one of the most affordable, yet, one of the most longer lasting. You know, a clip-on extension just one can last you like forever, literally."
