"Dry Ice" froze out the competition at the Midwest Regional Semifinals of the U.S. Air Guitar Championships in Chicago on Saturday (July 27).
Aaron Alonso, also known as "Dry Ice," chose Foreigner's 1977 rock classic 'Cold as Ice' to begin his show. From the initial power chord, Alonso had the crowd mesmerized, but the music quickly morphed into a guitar-laced heavy metal work of unknown origin, allowing him to more fully reveal his virtual virtuosity.
If "Dry Ice" wants to preserve his place in history he has more work to do as the search for America's best air guitar player continues. There is one more semifinal, the Western Semifinals, still to be held in San Francisco on August 3rd. The winner of that contest will join "Dry Ice" and all the other regional champions and they duke it out at the National Finals in Los Angeles on August 17th.
Whomever is declared the nation's best air guitarist will go on to the Air Guitar World Championships in Oulu, Finland on August 21-24.
