Comedian Ellen DeGeneres has been chosen to host the 2014 Oscars. This would be her second stint as master of ceremonies for the event. DeGeneres, the star of her own daytime talk show "Ellen," previously hosted the Academy Awards, the film industry's highest honors, in 2007. Simon Cowell was asked about unconfirmed reports of his impending fatherhood at a Television Critics Association panel on Thursday (August 1). He deflected the question, citing privacy concerns, but said he would eventually clear up the matter when the timing is right. The "X Factor" and "American Idol" creator is embroiled in his friends' divorce proceedings with court documents citing Cowell as a co-respondent in a divorce complaint stating the reasons for the dissolution of marriage are the commission of acts of adultery. "Avatar" will get three more sequels in the next five years. James Cameron will release "Avatar 2" in December 2016, with "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4" coming in December 2017 and 2018. All sequels will be shot simultaneously. "Avatar" is the highest-grossing film of all time, having earned nearly $2.8 billion (USD) worldwide. The BBC will reveal the 12th actor to play the lead role in its long-running "Doctor Who" science-fiction television series in a special live broadcast on Sunday (August 04). The half-hour show will feature an interview with the next Time Lord, who travels through space and time battling all manner of malevolent monsters. Actor Matt Smith, who has played the role since 2010, said in June he would be bowing out in this year's Christmas special. The series will mark its 50th anniversary in November.
