ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Fire crews were battling to put out a blaze on Friday some 30 kilometers, or close to 19 miles east of the Greek capital Athens. The forest fire in the town of Markopoulo threatened several homes, coming dangerously close to rooftops and burning thick forest and olive groves, local authorities said. Conditions were not ideal for fire fighters attempting to extinguish the blaze, as strong winds plagued the region. Ten firefighting planes, two helicopters, 40 vehicles and 100 firemen were involved in the effort to keep the flames away from homes. It is one of the largest fires in Greece so far this summer.
