Iranians took the streets across the Islamic Republic on Friday to mark the annual Al-Quds or Jerusalem Day. Among their number was newly elected President Hassan Rouhani, due to take office on Sunday. A wave of optimism has swept the country since Rouhani's election. But the moderate cleric faces a monumental task to resolve the international nuclear dispute, ease stringent sanctions and revive a failing economy. Al-Quds Day was launched by Iran's Supreme Leader the Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979. It's held on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan to show support for Palestinians and opposition to Israel. Iran's state television showed large crowds marching in Tehran as part of the nationwide rally.
