The year's most powerful typhoon brings chaos to parts of the northern Philippines.
By 0600GMT on Monday the National Disaster Agency said at least one person was dead and 14 fishermen missing.
The coastal town of Casiguran bore the brunt of the storm's power with winds gusting up to 170 kilometres an hour.
Houses were wrecked.
Electricity and phones were out as lines came down.
Trees were uprooted, and the only access road was blocked by landslides.
(SOUNDBITE) (Filipino) VILLAGER CELY TORRE SAYING:
"It was really frightening. I thought I was going to die."
(SOUNDBITE) (Filipino) VILLAGER RENEN SUBANG SAYING:
"We have to repair everything because the typhoon took all of our livelihood. We have to start over again."
The typhoon was expected to sweep through other parts of the northern Philippines before heading towards the South China Sea by Tuesday.
