Blast kills 20 in Lebanon

Aug. 15 - A powerful explosion struck the southern Beirut stronghold of Lebanon's militant Hezbollah group, killing 20 people and trapping many in nearby buildings. Deborah Gembara reports.

Panic on the streets --- just moments after an explosion rocked Beirut. The blast, which struck a building complex used by Hezbollah killed 20 people and wounded at least 120. Many found themselves trapped inside heavily damaged buildings near the point of impact and an ominous cloud of smoke could be see above the city skyline. Amateur video shows efforts to put out the blaze and find survivors amid the rubble. The explosion, is believed to have been caused by a car bomb. A Sunni Islamist group calling itself the Brigades of Aisha claimed responsibility for the attack in this video posted to the internet whose content Reuters cannot independently verify. They say they targeted Hezbollah because of the group's support for Syrian President Bashar al Assad. They also warned there would be more attacks.
